"I have really enjoyed my first couple of weeks here and it was important to me to spend time to speak to everyone I'll work with to see how I can make a difference and get a real feel for what this group is all about, what motivates and inspires them and what Gloucester Rugby means to people and players here.
"Having spent some time now with the coaching group, backroom staff and now the players at the end of last week, it strikes me what an obvious ambition, passion and pride runs through this club and a firm will to take things forward.
"Gloucester Rugby has a very loyal support and has nurtured and encouraged an honest and strong rugby community with good links into clubs across the area for the development and inspiration of young talent."
Davies said the attraction of Kingsholm was the heritage, tradition and real passion for rugby at Gloucester Rugby - with a very able and talented squad of players that has plenty to prove.
"This squad combines talented young players as well as world class talent and established quality senior professionals. There is a lot of work to do next season, and key to that will be our preparations and how we knit together as a group over the next eight weeks in preseason.
Of his move to Kingsholm, and outside Wales for the first time in his career, Davies said that it would only have been to a club that he felt had values and a rugby philosophy that he could clearly recognise and respect:
"This is a very exciting new opportunity for me; I wanted to challenge myself differently at this stage in my career and after 28 years in Wales as a player and coach, it was important to build on my experiences outside Wales.
"But that ambition would only ever be attractive to me working with a rugby club and business with values that mirror my own.
He continued:
"I'm looking forward to competing in the Aviva Premiership, it's a strong, physical league competition and traditionally dominated by a couple of teams but I'll look to bring a fresh approach and vision here and we want to pay back our loyal supporters with action on the pitch they can be proud of.
"Taking things forward we will be a team with a cause and I'll be encouraging these players to play with no fear - there should be no ceilings to achievement and ambition for any of our young players.
"I like what Gloucester Rugby stands for - it reflects my own values and rugby philosophies and I'll look to help establish a culture where we're very honest and equal with each other and show pride and passion in the jersey and respect the tradition of this club and its supporters by the way we play.
"I'm very excited by the youth in this squad, and it was good to see three Gloucester players shining in the U20 England squad in South Africa. The challenge is to ensure these players reach their potential and that we are constantly evolving and unearthing new talent.
"Developing young, local talent was key part of our ethos at the Scarlets and it will continue to be so at Gloucester and it's positive to see the good work being done within the Academy here."
A pragmatic Davies said he wanted to get into the heart of preseason preparations straight away and use that period to gel and motivate the playing squad.
"We'll be taking these players out of their comfort zones, making them think differently and challenge them individually - having a few laughs in the process and enjoying our rugby. We'll focus on core skills to raise levels, look at decision-making and ensure we're adaptable in our play.
Davies added the facilities at Hartpury College had really impressed him. The partnership with the College has seen the Gloucester Rugby squad move into brand new bespoke facilities within the past year, including a recently upgraded gym facility plus a wide scope of training pitches both with artificial and grass surfaces.
As for Kingsholm as a home on matchdays:
"I really like the feel of Kingsholm as a stadium, it has very modern facilities and a good capacity as well as being a traditional and real rugby ground which can evoke passion in the supporters who are still really close to the action.
"Having experienced pre-season games here with the Scarlets, I know only too well that it's a very intimidating place for teams to come to. I'm excited about the prospect of our first home game here and we'll be working hard to defend a proud home record at our stadium."
As one of the top performing English clubs in recent years, Davies said the club's ambition off the field was as focused as it is on the field and said he was looking forward to working closely with the directors of the club who had shown great commitment to support his rugby vision going forward.
"It is great to be part of a successful club and one of very few rugby businesses today that is performing positively financially, and you can see the commercial drive and expertise that Gloucester Rugby's management team bring to this business.
"Ken Nottage has obviously led a very proactive management team and the goodwill and close partnership with a range of high profile sponsors supporting this club is evident."
Nigel Davies also paid tribute to the legacy of Gloucester's late Rugby Operations Manager John Brain who had led rugby recruitment including securing the signing of Scarlets and England no 8 Ben Morgan, saying he had done a superb job and that he would look to carry on with respect to the great work already done.
