I’m hoping for Brian Ashton as DOR.

Good that we’ll know who by the end of May though, whoever it is.

I don't know why, but feeling quite optomistic about this...
I get the feeling that as soon as the board accepted BR resignation, the task of finding 'replacements' went into overdrive.

At this time - and this is purely a guess - I would imagine that discussions have already taken place and now contract negotiations are ongoing.

All the time this is done, not quite in secrecy, but more in a tone of absolute discretion, possibly to enable the incumbents to remove themselves from there present situations in a sensible manner.

Can't wait to find out who though....

Rumour thread is required...???

Ashton quoted this morning in the Times as saying that he is concentrating on his new job working for Kukri, so that looks unlikely.

Following yesterday's news of Ashton resigning his post at Fylde, and his having other work opportunities to consider aside from his business commitments, I've had a further thought this morning that maybe he is being lined up for some sort of (full or part time) role at Sale? Geographicallly it would seem to make sense but time will no doubt tell. Good fun speculating on all this tho' … :smt001

Ashton would be a very strong candidate. Shame he appears to have other fish to fry.

It will be interesting to see who rolls up at the end of the month. I'm hoping Duggie has a role to play; wouldn't be popular with everyone, but, despite Bloodgate, I'd rather like Dean Richards to take us on, assuming he can be released from any obligation he has with Newcastle once their relegation is confirmed. Our pack needs sorting out, and I think he'd do it. For the backs, I'd like to see Tofty, who has served his apprenticeship in the coaching environment.

Oh, Richards wouldn't be allowed to bring his ex-Lester mates such as Wells with him!!

All good speculation. Any other ideas? Hope it's not Meehan.

Richards would be a nasty bugger - would go EITHER very well or very badly, no inbetween I suspect! Not everyone's cup of tea, but maybe the bad medicine we need to get to the next level!!

Why not Meehan - he got Bath flowing nicely?

I suppose it's because he was involved with B*rf - pure prejudice on my part. And I suppose he did a reasonable job with them, although they seem to have fallen away under him over the last couple of seasons.

Quote: "Should the Kingsholm club appoint a rugby director who has a history of working with a specific backroom staff, Nottage said Gloucester would want to keep that opportunity open."

Based on that Westy, if I was you I'd be worried, very worried! :smt003

Mind you, I'm with you on that one! :smt009 .

Looks like Ford is off to Bath according to The Times today. "Mike Ford, the former England defence coach, is expected to make a permanent return to the club game as part of the new management team being put together to revive the fortunes of Bath next season.
The appointment of Ford, whose contract with England was not renewed after the debacle of the World Cup, is anticipated after tomorrow’s final league game against Leicester at Welford Road.
Ford will serve as the defence coach under Gary Gold who is set to be confirmed as the new director of rugby at the Recreation Ground in succession to Sir Ian McGeechan. Both Gold, a South African, and Ford have been working together temporarily at Newcastle Falcons for the past three months in a bid to help the embattled club escape relegation." :smt005

In the same article ..it says Redpath has also been interviewed by Munster and Cardiff as well as Sale, and Toby Booth is linked with the post of Director of Rugby at Glos.

Munster have already appointed their coach for next season so Redpath is not going there.

Carl has put in the hard yards, especially since Brush jumped ship but I sincerely hope he will not be making the step up to head coach here... let alone a DOR place. Regardless of what has gone on he has failed to inspire the team and our forwards have been our weak link...
