I'm a visitor from the Wasps site and I was hoping I could gain the benefit of a little local knowledge please.

A friend of mine has just secured a new job in Gloucester and is looking at properties in the area. He doesn't know Gloucester at all, but was thinking about the Longford area. Does anyone know this neck of the woods? Is it a nice area. Thanks.

Longford's nice enough. Looked at a property there myself once.
Best bet, is to just come down to Gloucester and have a look around, most areas are pleasant enough. Gloucester's a lovely place!
:D

I lived in Longlevens for 25 years which is about 1/2 mile from Longford both very nice area's.... Longlevens is slightly bigger but then you have local shops & pubs where Longford hasn't. Both are about 2 miles from Glos and buses every 10 mins to Glos centre. Obviously there are other area's of Gloucester but I would suggest Longlevens/Longford if that's where your friend is looking at.

It's a dump! You'd be better off living in a tent.
I'm not going to say that your opinion is wrong, it's just an opinion after all, but maybe if it were put a little more constructively it would be more useful! Jim.

Constructive eh?

It's like a dump in a construction site! You would be better off constructing a tent and living a constructive life in that.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Steve - I'd be interested to know what you think is wrong with Longford. It can't be that bad, can it?

There is nothing wrong with Longford at all, I don't know why he say's its a dump - I can assure you there are other area's of Gloucester which are a dump, Longford it a quiet friendly village, your friend will have no problems there at all. Will he support Glos when he moves here?!!

I would recommend Sandhurst, it is one of the places in Gloucester that gets on the news almost every year, if you have a boat it will come in handy.

I would not recommend Barton or Barton st as it is full of theives, immigrants and religous types.

It all Depends on whether your friend wants to live in a rural area or City centre.

Longford is semi rural but the City is closing in on it fast.

Contrary to the previous post I dont think it's fair to knock a whole area of Gloucester (Barton). There are good and bad in all areas (You could meet some 'Characters' in Sandhurst Lane.

Sounds obvious but a visit to the area would help you make up your mind.

Got to be better than anywhere in the London area !!
