Matt came into the Abbey Business Lounge after the game to receive his award from Richard Watkins of F.I. Watkins & Son on his 21st birthday!
He then took part in an informal Q&A, facilitated by former Gloucester back row forward Simon Devereux alongside team mates Gareth Evans and Tavis Knoyle.
Simon provided the following summary:
"Gloucester's coaching team will have been pleased with this performance which enables the squad to approach the upcoming Premiership games in a positive mindset.
"Gloucester's performance was built on a strong forward display in all areas enabling them to put Wasps under constant pressure through multiple phases in the opening quarter. It was only committed defence from Wasps which kept the score down.
"Gloucester mixed the game up well posing questions of the Wasps defence and equally pleasing was Gloucester's own defensive structure when Wasps had a period of pressure towards the end of the first half.
"The forwards were rewarded for their dominance with two second half tries coming from driving line-outs, returning with interest, Wasps' only try of the match from a similar position. Were it not for three 2nd half turnovers in the opposition 22, Gloucester may have been further in front following good periods of attacking play.
"These games provide an excellent opportunity to mix experience with junior players to help develop the squad. There can be a tendency for the games to become scrappy and lose structure from the outset.
"However, Gloucester ensured this was not the case managing the game well from the start, providing a foundation to build on as the Premiership returns.
"Matt Cox was one of several players who stood out and he deservedly picked up the Man of the Match award. His two tries were duly acknowledged by his fellow back row forward Gareth Evans in front of the assembled 1873 members!"
