Both teams finished on 10 points in their respective pools, but England's points difference is better than their Irish counterparts.
England were simply way too strong. They scored in the very first minute and then opened up the USA defence seemingly at will.
The only thing that prevented even more tries was a touch of white line fever from time to time, when a simple pass to put in a team mate was turned down in the unsuccessful quest for a solo score.
It mattered little in the final analysis because the 17 tries scored were just enough to take England to ten points and they will now face New Zealand in the semi final next Tuesday.
