Gloucester Rugby has a proud history steeped in tradition that has evolved into the professional era.

Gloucester Rugby is a club proud of its traditions and heritage, none more so than producing home grown talent.

Our mission statement

During the transition into professionalism, it was recognised that Gloucester needed to develop local players who can compete at the highest level and bring the passion and desire that goes with playing for your home club.

A clear development programme has been identified for potential athletes that aims to produce the complete rugby playing professional.

In early 2002, Gloucester Rugby was awarded RFU Academy Status. The Gloucester and England Rugby Academy aims to produce outstanding players for both club and country.

Players can access the Academy through a variety of routes and are assisted in all areas of their rugby and personal development to attain their ultimate goal of playing for Gloucester Rugby at Kingsholm.

The Academy is fully committed to developing players from Gloucestershire and, as such, run a comprehensive Junior Academy programme from U13 to U18.

The newly developed programme is starting to reap rewards with a number of age grade internationals being recognised as well as the U15 squad attaining the number one rank amongst their premiership academy peers.

There are formalised entry and exit routes at every stage of the academy through a talent identification programme, watching programme and a scouting and recommendation network.

This development is underpinned by education at various levels, thus providing players with a focus outside of rugby and a rounded education pathway.

Gloucester Rugby have developed an excellent partnership with Hartpury College that has seen the likes of Jonny May, Ryan Mills and Tom Savage develop through the Academy to become first team regulars.

The College provides developing athletes with the opportunity to train at the Gloucester Training Centre under the supervision of Gloucester Rugby coaches, play a highly competitive and challenging fixture programme as well as continue their education in an OFSTED 'Outstanding' rated educational establishment.

Players choosing not to attend Hartpury College are supported through our Academy outreach programme which includes twice weekly training sessions as well as individually tailored strength and conditioning, nutritional and skills development support.

At the age of 18 those players graduating from the Junior Academy Programme will join the Senior Academy who train alongside the first team squad on a daily basis in the hope of achieving their goal of playing for the Gloucester Senior side.
