One of the other key aims is to raise the aspirations of girls in sports, career and life by increasing their confidence and self esteem. Achievement is encouraged and celebrated; interest is taken in the girls as individuals and as members of a team.
Sessions are delivered by a dedicated group of volunteers, twice a month on Friday nights for Under 18s and from September 18-24 years; and Under 12s and Under 15s on a Saturday morning - 100 girls in attendance. This is in addition to any club sessions the girls may have. 75% of the players have represented county or region.
Although the programme concentrates on the development of individual skills and is not team based, there have bee two matches at Kingsholm, with Breast Cancer Care being the focus for charitable donations, as GGR's designated charity.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the establishment of Gloucester Girls Rugby (and charity registration in 3 weeks), the Belle of the Ball event has been organised at The Star Suite, Kingsholm with guests Women's Rugby Captain, Catherine Spencer, and the RFU National Coaching Development Manager, Gary Townsend.
The evening will include short presentations and awards, a 3 course meal, auction and raffle and a live 10 piece band On the Edge from Bristol. We hope you can encourage your club to book a table to thank your volunteer coaches.
