In recognition of this, during the past year a great deal of work has been undertaken to bring together the history of Gloucester Rugby, through the Gloucester Rugby Heritage Project.
Displays celebrating the club's history have been created in the new South Stand and a heritage website has been launched dedicated to preserving the history of the club and giving recognition to the many players who have represented the club - www.gloucesterrugbyheritage.org.uk
The Gloucester Rugby Former Players Association is set to be launched for the 2010-11 season and aims to bring together former players through regular reunion events.
Gary Little, Gloucester Rugby Community Manager, said:
"The former player is one of the most important parts of any club´s history. They in many ways are at the heart of the club. They hold the memories and understand the pride and passion associated with representing the club."
"We will be inviting former players to join the association and in doing so we hope that we can provide a platform for them to renew friendships and maintain a link with the club."
"Some players may have lost contact with the club after retiring from the game or having moved away from the area, so we are trying to track as many of them down as possible so that they can re-engage with Gloucester Rugby."
To join the GRFPA, individuals are invited to contact Gary at the club on 01452 872277 or email garylittle@gloucesterrugby.co.uk
