Therefore through the work that St John Ambulance undertakes we are determined to be the difference between lives lost and lives saved.
Research has shown that two out of three people wouldn't know what to do and that a quarter would just stand by and watch. Learning first aid is easy, it doesn't have to take days and cost a fortune.
There is no reason why anyone shouldn't be able to get training and help save lives.
And, Saturday will see a great opportunity to find out more as, before the Harlequins game, representatives from St John Ambulance will be doing first aid demos at the First Aid Point and also at Entrances 2 and 3 up until kick off.
Within Gloucestershire our members are making a difference every day of the year. Last year alone our 619 members, who are aged between five and 76, spent nearly 115,000 hours on first aid support, training, transport, youth work and social care. Within the many first aid roles, during 2009 our adult members treated more than 2,200 patients on duty.
We offer a vast variety of first aid and health and safety training courses throughout the county so that everyone can have access to the training they require. Also through our ever growing youth programmes and schools training we are equipping the next generation with fundamental life skills, in areas including first aid; so that they too could be the difference.
Knowing how to react in a medical emergency could make you the difference between a life lost and a life saved. It's all well and good saying you would call an ambulance but the minutes it could take for one to arrive are vital and even basic first aid knowledge can make a difference.
