"It was chalk and cheese from last week especially up front. It was nothing less than we'd expected but, on the day, they got the better of us."
"There were areas on the pitch where we matched them but they got the slight upper edge in the scrums although they didn't get much out of their driving line outs."
Trailing 16-6 at half time, Gloucester were still very much in the game but Wood admitted that, had a couple of half chances been converted, it could have been very different.
"We just didn't take advantage of a couple of chances in the first half. They got a score to go in 16-6 at half time and a quick score after the break and that was it, they were out in front."
"You go 6 nil up and you take one of those half chances, it's 11 nil or 13 nil and you're looking at a completely different game."
"Especially away at Welford Road. They're not a classic side at chasing the game, they're an attritional side who build and build towards a score and then they play which is unfortunately what happened today."
Andy Wyman of BBC Radio Gloucestershire put it to Nick that, when Gloucester had moved the ball around, they looked dangerous.
"Definitely, but it's a balance. Today, we missed a couple of opportunities because the final pass or the final offload wasn't on to give and, rather then recycle the ball, we looked for a pass that wasn't on and turned the ball over."
"Later on in the game, when you're chasing the game, you can try and force it but early on you need to hang on to it and take the points when you can."
"You definitely have to react to what's around you but, at the same time, you have to go out and play your game regardless of who the opposition are."
"Today was always going to be tough around the breakdown with the numbers they commit and how fiercely they contest that area. It make it harder for you to impose your game on them."
Wood finished by admitting that the team were disappointed but still positive ahead of this weekend's home game against Sale Sharks.
"We're all bitterly disappointed with the result today. A couple of soft tries and the scoreline didn't really reflect how close the game was."
"At the same time, we're not going to get too disheartened by it. We've been building for the past four or five months. Had we been playing as we did before Christmas, we could easily have capitulated."
"But we're beyond that now and we did come back into it. It was 23-11 and we had the upper hand for 15 or 20 minutes." "
"But we didn't quite that second score which would have got us back into the mix and they picked off that one score towards the end to make it 33-11."
"Not long ago some people were talking about relegation and writing us off. But it was a transition phase and we all needed to gel. I think that's now happened and we have to take that into next weekend against Sale at Kingsholm."
