The tests were used to identify their current level of fitness by using the latest technological testing equipment. Individual test results were presented to all of the youngsters and will be used by them as a guide to their own personal development over the duration of the programme this season.
The Junior Talent Development Programme has established 4 centres across the county. These centres are based at St Peters School Gloucester, Bournside School Cheltenham, Heywood Community Sports College in the Forest of Dean and Marling in Stroud. The players will come together on a select number of dates throughout the season. The first of which took place on the 10th December 2006.
The young "Stars" showed great commitment and desire to impress the Gloucester Academy coaches during this first session, despite the very difficult wet, windy and cold conditions. Andy Brown, scheme co-ordinator, said, "The players demonstrated some good skills, willingness and potential to improve."
The Junior Talent Programme sponsored by STAR is designed to develop identified players at 14/15 years of age who show the potential to develop in the game, irrespective of their playing position. The programme is a stepping stone for players before becoming an EPDC Gloucester Academy Athlete.
