Both Gloucester Rugby players were amazed and impressed by the range of choice available to our pupils.
They explained to the children how important nutrition is in modern rugby, and were impressed by the quality and nutritional balance of the food on offer in schools.
The photo-shoot was organised by Gloucestershire County Council's Healthy Schools Team in response to requests from parents. Mums and dads would like to know what the food their children eat looks like as they only have memories from their own school days.
Kirsty Pritchard, Strategy Manager for Food in Schools, said: "Many schools organise parent tasting sessions which always prove to be very successful and result in an increase in school meal uptake.
However, not all parents can attend these sessions and we have often been asked to provide photos to show the quality product that is now available for our children at lunchtime."Gloucestershire has bucked the national trend by increasing the uptake of school meals, which I believe is down to the high quality menus provided by Sodexho."
Cllr Jackie Hall, Lead Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: "Yet again Gloucestershire's primary pupils have got a healthy and tasty menu to look forward to this term. I hope children will continue to enjoy the choices on offer in our schools."
The new menu will be in primary schools across Gloucestershire from the beginning of term. See www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/healthyschools for details.
