Gloucester Rugby hosted the Qantas Wallabies in November 2009, a season which also saw the England U20s side use Kingsholm as its base.
2010-11 saw Samoa and Georgia play fixtures at the stadium which also hosted a Churchill Cup double header in May when the England Saxons took on Tonga and Italy A squared off against Russia.
It's not the first time, of course, that the Barbarians have faced Ireland at Kingsholm. The two teams faced each other back in May 2008 in a fixture which, following the construction of the new South Stand, launched Kingsholm as a credible venue to host high profile international matches.
Ireland emerged victorious on that occasion but a sure to be star studded Barbarians side will be looking to gain some measure of revenge.
Ken Nottage, Gloucester's Managing Director said today:
"On behalf of everyone at Gloucester Rugby, I would like to express our excitement at welcoming the Barbarians and Ireland back to Kingsholm."
"The previous time these teams played here in Gloucester, it very much marked the start of a new era here at the club."
"We've now hosted a number of international fixtures here at the stadium but a Barbarians match is always a special one.
"It would be fantastic to get the tremendous backing of our supporters to illustrate the region's ever growing commitment to supporting the game at all levels from grass roots to the international stage."
The Barbarians Commercial Director Mike Burton, a man who knows Kingsholm well, is also delighted to see this fixture make a welcome return.
"Gloucester's Kingsholm ground is a great venue to showcase the history of the Barbarians. Gloucester Rugby have previously hosted this fixture against Ireland and it was something the rugby public really got behind and supported - we are delighted to be back at this rugby hotbed again."
