Now, thanks to an invitation by Gloucester Rugby Club, the choir will sing to an audience which will be in excess of 50,000 when the Cherry and Whites take the field at Twickenham to play Cardiff Blues in the EDF Energy Cup Final on Saturday April 18th.
Pete Wilson, Choir Chairman said.
"The Cardiff Blues will be bringing their own choir to support them with Welsh songs before the match and the the powers that be at Twickenham thought a local choir should provide some balance to the proceedings - and here we are."
"It's a great opportunity and one we are only too happy to accept. We shall be travelling up on the day and singing some songs for the lads, which will hopefully include the song 'The Gloucester Boys', a song that used to be heard on the terraces and which we expect the clubs supporters to join in with."
This will be only one of the spectaculars that the choir will be involved in this year.
On Sunday August 2 it will be performing in a concert celebrating the centenary of Morgan Cars at Cheltenham Race Course, in November the venue will be Cheltenham Town Hall with the Kazakhstan Central Band and when the choir perform on two programmes of the BBC's Sunday Half Hour on 21st June and 23rd August a total of over 1 million listeners will be tuned in.
Pete added:
"In the words of one of our members; nothing will surprise me about what this choir gets up to!"
"Amongst all the excitement we must remember two of our late members, Charlie Roberts and Dennis Ripley, two great rugby fans, who would have been in their element there, and we would like to dedicate this trip to their memories."
Below are the words to 'The Gloucester Boys' should you wish to print them off to sing along on Saturday:
The Gloucester Boys
We come from Gloucester, the pride of the west,
Some of the lads and some of the best,
We are respected wherever we go,
Where we come from nobody knows,
They call us the pride of the ladies, the ladies,
They spend all our wages, our wages,
We are respected wherever we go,
We are the Gloster boys.
Where will they be with all their thrills upon it,
Where will they be when they done their level best,
la, la, la, la, la, la,
Where will they be with all their thrills upon it,
Ten to one on the Gloster boys, nothing for the rest.
Maggie dear, a pint of beer, a woodbine and a match,
A tuppenny ha'penny stick of rock, we're off to see the match,
To see ol' Gloster score a try, the best try in the land,
We are the Gloster boys.
We are the Gloster boys, We are the Gloster boys,
We know our manners, we spend out tanners,
We are respected wherever we may go,
And when we're walking down the Kingsholm road,
Doors and windows open wide,
You can hear the people shout " Put those ruddy woodbines out "
We are the Gloster boys,
G-L-O-U-C-E-S-T-E-R ---- GLOUCESTER
