And he is confident ahead of the Chinnor game that, if Hartpury continue to play with the freedom they did last Saturday against Bournemouth, that they can keep pushing for promotion.
"We played with freedom on Saturday and I think that really suited us. I'm confident we have one of the best squads in the league and we need to just make sure we keep pulling together.
"I think that the losses have actually done us some good - we're all trying to play for each other and trying to put in good team performances."
"It was probably our best rugby for 50 minutes; it was a shame that the last 30 went a bit downhill. It's not an excuse but I think sometimes you expect that when you go 40 points ahead so quickly. It was good to get back to winning ways after that tough loss away (to Worthing)" the fly-half added.
The Saturday side put in a performance last week, which was a tale of two halves - dominating the first and slipping away in the second.
Burns, who completed his National Diploma in Sport at Hartpury, says his side need to step up for the entire 80 minutes:
"We're the underdogs, there's no real pressure on us and I think now is the perfect time to put in good performances for 80 minutes, instead of dropping off.
"We're proud of our defensive record and we pride ourselves on it, so it's a shame when we do leak points, but I know this weekend the boys will be hungry to rectify that."
Hartpury continue to boast a good away record, losing only twice on the road to the top two sides, and Burns knows they need to discover the same form on their home patch.
"A lot of people have been talking about it (home vs away), and it's hard to put your finger on it. Maybe it's because when we're at home we relax a little bit more and almost expect to win.
"When you go away it's normally the other way round, you're the underdog and they don't expect you to get the win, and we put in a performance to prove them wrong", said the dual-registered Gloucester Rugby Academy player.
"I think we just need to adopt a bit of the same mentality we have when we go away when we're at home. I know the boys will be up to that and we're looking forward to putting in a good performance this weekend" he added.
Hartpury currently sit fourth in the table, with this weekend's opponents a further two places behind - it's a tie that Hartpury cannot afford to slip up on.
Hartpury can take solace in the fact that they're the only team to have beaten Chinnor on their home patch.
"They're a big physical team who like to cause trouble at the breakdown and try and slow us down. We struggled down there a little in the first half but blew them away in the second period. We have to match them physically; we know we've got the skill and fitness to get past them."
"The mood is positive in the camp, we've had a great couple of days training. We're confident, despite the fact it was tough at their place, that we can get the win again this weekend.
"We just have to try and keep getting the wins and seeing what other teams around us do. We have a chance to just go out and express ourselves; it should be a good game."
The dual registered Gloucester player says he is enjoying his time playing for both sides:
"With them being right on each other's doorstep, there is a really good link between the two, and the coaching I get from both sides is fantastic. I'm just making the most of it to be honest."
He's been an important fixture of the Academy side at Gloucester and continues to make an important contribution in Hartpury's promotion push.
