The Year 2013 saw a new Gifted and Talented Sports Programme, designed to support, develop and nurture talented pupils, launched at King's.
One of Gloucester Rugby's greatest players, Phil Vickery (MBE), is assisting in regular coaching sessions and acting as a mentor for this programme, providing the pupils with advice, leadership and elite expertise.
Phil said: "I've been fortunate enough to enjoy a long career at the top of my sport but to reach that level requires enormous commitment and dedication. This programme will ensure the pupils are surrounded by the right advice and guidance, as talent alone is just part of the solution to performing consistently at the highest level."
Some of the key features of this programme are to increase a pupil's knowledge and understanding in areas such as nutrition, core-conditioning, skill acquisition, injury prevention and performance analysis.
Director of Sport at King's, Andy Phillips said: "We are absolutely delighted to be able to work with Phil in this scheme which has been designed to support each pupil, while nurturing their potential and further developing sporting excellence."
King's will also be working in partnership with the University of Gloucestershire's Sports Science Department, where the pupils will be able to utilise sports testing facilities to gather data and feedback on their own sporting capabilities, strengths and weaknesses. Look out for King's sporting talent in 2014!
The next Open Morning at King's is Saturday 22nd March with a Sixth Form Information Evening, Wednesday 12th February. Come and discover how King's can develop your child.
