King's were in a section with finalists from Cheltenham, Stroud, the Cotswolds and the Forest of Dean. The squad played exceptionally well throughout the morning, winning three of their four matches. This placed them as runners-up in their section, which meant they played the winners of the opposite section in the semi-finals.
Here, King's faced a tough challenge in their old adversities, The Croft School from Painswick. They are a traditionally strong and well organised team, but a determined Kings squad kept their composure and an amazing effort, particularly in the second half, resulted in an excellent 5-2 victory!
This took King's into the final, to meet the team who had beaten them in the first section, St. Mary's, Tetbury. The game was played at a high speed, with both teams evenly matched. Brilliant defence took King's to a 2-1 lead at half time. The second half was an equally tense and exciting affair where St. Mary's equalised and then the game swung from one end to the other with every player giving their all.
With literally the very last throw of the ball, St Mary's scored the winning goal as the hooter was sounded. It was an amazing final between two exceptional teams and although a little disappointed with the result, the standard of skill shown, as well as the dignity and courtesy of the Kings squad made everyone very proud!
And with last year's team finishing third in the County and the 2012 one being overall County champions! This year's team certainly kept up the standard and emulated the success of previous years by being runners-up! A fantastic season from a fantastic squad!
