Tight head prop who joined the club from Ulster after 2 and a half seasons with the province, and revered by many as one of the most highly-rated front rowers in Europe.

The 36 time capped and World Cup winning All Black, John put pen to paper with the Cherry and Whites after making 58 appearances for the Ravenhill club as well as 101 appearances for the Blues in Super Rugby before that.

John made his first appearance in Super Rugby for his city of birth, Auckland Blues in 2004 against the Brumbies and scored 3 tries during his time whilst bringing up a century of appearances.

For the All Blacks, Afoa was part of the squad that won the Rugby World Cup on home territory, and in 2014-15, his arrival at Kingsholm is a hugely exciting one for both the player and the club.
