Regarded as one of the best line-out takers in the country, Brown signed from arch rivals Bristol Shoguns in 2003, and soon became a regular in the Gloucester line-up. 

Not only is Brown superb in the line-out, but he is one of Gloucester most fearsome defenders, picking up the Gillette Power Award for the 2006-07 season and willing ball carriers. 

He won two England caps on the summer tour to South Africa in the summer of 2007 to add to the one he won on debut against Australia.

Alex continued to be one of the Premiership's most consistent performers, and signed a new contract with the club in Spring 2011 and enoys a testimonial year in 2012-13. 

Sadly, a bad shoulder injury suffered in the opening game of the season led to Alex sadly announcing his retirement from the game in December.

However, in March, Alex was confirmed as the club's new Rugby Operations Manager to take his involvement with the club into a second decade.
