Buxton joined Gloucester in 2002 as one of Nigel Melville’s first signings, from Newport.

He was named on the bench for England’s game against the Barbarians in 2004, after a string of fine performances that season and has developed into one of the most durable, committed and determined players anywhere in the country.
 
One of the most hard-working players in the Gloucester squad, his physicality and consistency has seen him regarded as a key member of the squad. 

2007-8 saw him share captaincy duties with Marco Bortolami and he was a regular in 2008-9 until suffering a season ending injury against London Irish just prior to Christmas.

Bucko, as he's affectionately known to Gloucester supporters, signed a new two year contract in January 2010.

2010-11 again saw a typically committed season as he made 15 starts before a broken forearm tragically ruled him out of the LV= Cup Final and finished his season prematurely.

He continued to be a key contributor in 2011-12 as he celebrated his testimonial year. He passed 250 appearances for the club and signed a new contract in the spring.

Bucko remained a valuable member of the squad, but it was announced in February 2013 that he would be joining Bristol Rugby ahead of the 2013-14 season.
