James Hook joined Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2014-15 season. The multi-capped Wales, Barbarians and British and Irish Lion joined the Cherry and Whites following a spell in the Top 14 with USA Perpignan and his arrival added real quality to a talented squad and backline.
Born in Port Talbot, James made his debut for the Ospreys in 2006 and went on to make 101 appearances for the Swansea based club, and accumulating an impressive 780 points during his time at the Liberty Stadium.
In 2011, James opted to move to Catalan Country where he joined USA Perpignan where he was a key part of the talented squad at the Stade Aime Giral.
Following Perpignan’s relegation at the end of the 2013-14 season, Gloucester Rugby acted fast to secure the services of one of the world’s finest talents.
In James' first season at the club, he made 30 appearances, scoring 114 points including two tries and a memorable 50m penalty to beat Saracens in January 2015. He also helped Gloucester to win the European Rugby Challenge Cup. His fine form in a Cherry and White saw James recalled to the Wales squad ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015.
At the end of his three year contract, at the end of the 2016-17 season, James opted to return to the Ospreys.
