Hybrid Cup is set to be an amazing event says club legend Mike Tindall
27 September 2016
Kingsholm will play host to the inaugural Mitsubishi Motors Hybrid Cup on Sunday 9 October (kick off 3pm), where the Gloucester Rugby Heroes meet the Salford Red Devils Legends in a cross-code exhibition clash with legends of both games set to grace the Kingsholm turf again.
Mike Tindall is set to pull on the one-off Cherry and White jersey again, and the former Gloucester and England captain is full of excitement for the game, which will aim to raise vital funds for many charities.
Tindall was back at Kingsholm last week to help launch the one-off shirt for the game, and spoke to the club website about the exciting Hybrid Cup.
“It’s not been too long for me being back at Kingsholm, and in the changing room. Not much has changed for me in here, and I automatically went to the peg that I used to get changed in!
“I think the premise of the game is a great idea, and it’s fantastic that Mitsubishi Motors have got on board with it, and for me, it’ll be great so long as I stay away from Adrian Morley’s forearm! Then I’m sure we’ll have a great time.”
Tindall, along with former team mate Olivier Azam, were the first to try on the new Gloucester Rugby Heroes kit at Kingsholm, and the two legends were very impressed with their new look.
“I actually like it, and it’s a really smart kit, so hopefully we can do it proud! It feels nice, and I worry it is going to get covered in a lot of sweat from the old boys!”
Of course, it has been a number of seasons since Tindall last laced his boots up to take to the Kingsholm turf, but he reveals he is relishing the chance to catch up with the good folk of The Shed and old team mates.
“That’s the fun side of it, you can’t hide away from the fact that we are playing for some great charities, but it also gives us a chance to raise some money and also have a good catch up with some old friends with a few beers and see where that takes us….”
