Polledri scores impressive first test try as Italy level series in Japan
16 June 2018
Gloucester Rugby back rower Jake Polledri crossed for a barnstorming second half try, as Conor O’Shea’s Italy side levelled their summer series in Japan with a narrow win in Kobe.
Polledri’s try, a typically powerful finish through Japanese front row duo Shota Horie and Keita Inagaki in the 44th minute, added to scores from Tomasso Benvenuti and Leo Ghiraldini, opening up a healthy lead for the Italians before they were given a late scare by the hosts.
Eventually, the Italians held on to win 25-22 as Japan scored 19 late points to create the dramatic finish, with Polledri replaced after 77 minutes.
