Gloucester crowd ‘Get Lucky’ as Nile Rodgers delivers superb set at Kingsholm
10 June 2019
On an unseasonably chilly June evening at Kingsholm on Sunday, Nile Rodgers and Chic warmed the spirits of everyone present with an entertaining performance, well and truly bringing the Good Times to the famous rugby stadium.
48 hours after Olly Murs performed in front of a packed crowd who shrugged off the pouring rain, Nile Rodgers and his disco-funk band delivered a set that spanned the decades much to the delight of another big crowd.
The scene was set by English soul singer-songwriter Gabrielle, who kicked things off with a polished performance which included renditions of her most popular hits ‘Dreams’ and ‘Out of Reach.’
However, it was Nile Rodgers that the crowd had come to see as his set called upon a career that has seen him work with artists like David Bowie (incl. ‘Lets Dance’), Diana Ross (incl. ‘Upside Down’, ‘I’m Coming Out’) and Madonna (incl. ‘Material Girl’, ‘Like A Virgin’ as well as collaborating recently with Daft Punk, Avicii, Sigala, Disclosure and Sam Smith.
Predictably it was the big hits that really fired up the crowd – ‘I Want Your Love’, ‘Get Lucky’, ‘Le Freak’ and ‘Good Times’ – as the masses boogied to their hearts’ content.
