International Round Up: Two debuts and a Rugby Championship
12 August 2019
Preparation for the World Cup is heating up, with the conclusion of the Southern Hemisphere’s Rugby Championship, and the beginning of the warm up fixtures for the European nations.
Callum Braley was the first Cherry and White in action over the weekend, after making his International debut coming off the bench for Italy in Ireland. An accomplished cameo from Braley, who came on for the final 20 minutes, looked right at home on the international scene and staked his claim for a World Cup spot.
Next up on the international stage was Springbok Franco Mostert, the lock played part in a South Africa side that claimed their first title since winning the previously named Tri-Nations in 2009. The Springboks went into the match knowing avoiding defeat would be enough to secure the title thanks to Australia’s victory over New Zealand earlier in the day.
Finally, Willi Heinz made his England debut starting in the scrum half berth alongside George Ford. Heinz orchestrated the game, providing control and composure from the base to put his name firmly in the selection argument. England ran out 33-19 winners to end a Wales winning streak of 14 games. The England squad announcement will be at 2.30pm this afternoon (Monday 12 August).
