Gloucester-Hartpury Women secured their first home win of the season as they ran 11 tries past Worcester Valkyries in a 67-3 victory, a performance which pleased Head Coach Susie Appleby.

The away side started the game strongly but Susie Appleby’s side managed to pull away from the Valkyries with blistering attacking passages.

After the game, Appleby spoke to Art de Roche from the University of Gloucestershire.

“It was a big day for the club and the most pleasing thing is that we played for 80 minutes. We haven’t been in the last few weeks so it’s a huge win to put us on track to play Saracens next week.

“We should’ve beaten Loughborough but didn’t so it’s good to get that first home victory.”

Gloucester-Hartpury’s game was the second part of the double-header with Hartpury College playing earlier in the day.

Reflecting on that, the Head Coach added:

“It’s great. The boys played before us and some of their crowd stayed to watched. We get such massive support from Hartpury that it gives us a big boost playing here.

“That being said it is nice to mix it up and play at Kingsholm twice a year. But this is our home. This is where we train and what a fantastic surface to play on.”

The victory also signified the side’s first back-to-back wins of the season. Appleby addressed this by saying:

“It is encouraging, we’re still making mistakes but the things that we are doing really well, we’re unstoppable at. We just need to get more consistency into our game.”

As well as taking positives from the manner of the victory, what impressed Appleby further was the performance of those making the step up from the A team.

She concluded:

“Daisy Fahey came up, played full back and did well nudging over four conversions. Emma Sing is a young 17-year-old who replaced her and she was great, scoring a try and making two conversions. Kelsey Jones who is new to us from Ospreys came in at hooker and played fantastically.

There are changes amongst the squad but the most important thing is that the core of the team remains the same which will get us consistent performances going forward.”
