Gloucester Rugby is delighted to announce that Carl Hogg has been appointed as our new Director of Academy and Development.

Hogg is a familiar face at Kingsholm, having spent 7 years at the Club between 2006 and 2013. Joining as an Academy Coach in 2006, Hogg quickly transitioned into the Forwards Coach role of the senior side, a position in which he spent the majority of his time in at Gloucester Rugby.

He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience previously working with Edinburgh Rugby and Worcester Warriors, as well as exposure to international rugby with Scotland and more recently Russia.

Hogg will join the senior management group at the Club from 1 April 2021 and assume responsibility for the overall management and strategy of the Gloucester Rugby Academy and of player development, while also having input on other strategic issues. Working with our Head of Academy Peter Walton, as well as the abundance of excellent coaches within our Academy structure, Hogg will develop a clear and ambitious plan to ensure there is an effective pathway for home-grown academy players to progress through to the first team and perform at the highest level.

Commenting on Carl’s arrival in the newly created role, Chief Executive Officer Lance Bradley said,

“We’ve been saying for some time that we intend to invest in our Academy, so that we develop home-grown players through our Academy system and have more Gloucester boys playing for Gloucester Rugby. The appointment of someone of Carl Hogg’s calibre is a clear demonstration of our intent in that respect, and we’re delighted that he’s joining us. His local, national and international experience is going to be invaluable.”

Upon his return to the club, Carl Hogg said he couldn’t wait to get started.

“It’s a real honour to return to Gloucester Rugby as the new Director of Academy and Development. It’s a club that has always been very close to my heart after spending a number of years here in the past.

“I am really excited about the project, and the long-term ambition that Lance [Bradley], George [Skivington] and Alex [Brown] have, not only for the Academy, but for the club as a whole.

“The Gloucester Rugby Academy, and especially the partnership with Hartpury University/College, has always been one of the best in the country for nurturing quality players to compete at the highest level.

“Our job now is to ensure local youngsters playing rugby out in the community know the clear pathway to representing Gloucester Rugby, and that we have the processes in place to ensure our home-grown talent goes on not only to be awarded the chance to wear the Cherry & White shirt, but also to represent the Club for years to come.”
