Gloucester-Hartpury resume Premier 15s action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Wasps to the Alpas Arena after a bye week in the last round.

Head Coach, Sean Lynn, says the week off came at a good time for his squad, who won all five of their consecutive fixtures since the Christmas break.

“It was very nice to have a week off. Coming off a tight win against Bristol, it’s always nicer going into the break off the back of a win.

“We did have a few players in the physio room in the last two or three weeks, so it was good for everyone to have a week off to recharge physically and mentally and now we’re just really excited for this four-week block before the Six Nations.”

Gloucester-Hartpury did the West Country derby double over rivals Bristol Bears a fortnight ago, in their tightest encounter of the season. Lynn highlighted the character shown by the girls as the key to victory at Shaftesbury Park.

“We went into half-time 19-7 up and after half-time we were hit with three injuries all at once to key members of the side. But the girls adapted well, and we came through with the win, there was great character from the girls, and you can’t coach that.”

The win over Bristol saw them take their unbeaten start to the league season to ten games, and Lynn says his side are excited to pick up where they left off this weekend.

“The girls are really motivated, We know how big these next two weeks are going to be, we have Wasps at the Alpas on Saturday and then Saracens at Kingsholm on the 25th which will be massive.”

Wasps sit at the foot of the Premier 15s table and are yet to win a game. Despite coming away with a 3-67 victory against Wasps earlier in the season, Lynn says Wasps aren’t going to go down easy.

“Wasps are always a courageous side. They’ll be coming to us with plenty of physicality and courage.

“The weather looks as though it’s going to be gorgeous so fingers crossed it stays that way and we can throw the ball around like we did at Twyford Avenue. But we’ve also got to make sure our driving maul and scrum is spot on to give us a good platform.”

Gloucester-Hartpury have back-to-back home games over the next fortnight, and Lynn says the girls love playing at home, whether that’s at the Alpas or Kingsholm.

“The Alpas means a lot to the girls but Kingsholm is a special place, it’s the home of rugby I Gloucestershire and the girls are really excited to be back here against Saracens.

“Sarries are always in the back of our minds but we have to just focus on Wasps this weekend and getting through that.”
