For the first time this tour, the British and Irish Lions fell short against South Africa A, losing 17-13 to a side that included a total of 16 World Cup winners in the matchday 23.

Chris Harris and Louis Rees-Zammit both started for Warren Gatland’s side and once again put their hands up for selection for the upcoming official tests against South Africa.

Harris had a solid game at 13, impressing with his defensive ability and physicality and linked up well with Bundee Aki in the centres. He carried well and, especially in the second half, really added speed in attack whenever he received the ball.

Rees-Zammit was also in good form and got within inches of scoring a try but the TMO deemed that the ball was short of the line and there was also a question as to whether there was double movement.

Showing real desire, Rees-Zammit put in a run from miles out to try and tackle Sbu Nkosi and came within inches of stopping the South African winger from scoring. Having a good battle with Cheslin Kolbe, the two speedy wingers enjoyed attacking and defending against each other all game and overall both Cherry and Whites impressed in South Africa again.

The next game of the tour is on Saturday 17 July against the Stormers, kick off 17:00.
