150 years-ago in 1873, Gloucester Rugby was officially formed. Shortly after, the Cherry & Whites made thier debut on a piece of land soon to be known as one of the most iconic stadiums in rugby - Kingsholm.

And it is at that exact site that Gloucester Rugby Foundation is set to host a special ‘150 Years of Gloucester Rugby’ event in partnership with the Gloucester History Festival, to bring legendary players past and present, alongside Gloucester Rugby Interim CEO and former player, Alex Brown, and club historian, Malc King, to explore and celebrate key moments from 150 years of Gloucester Rugby.

From the first ever international rugby game in 1871 to the debut Rugby World Cup in 1987, from the creation of the Home Nation Championship in 1893 to the start of the professional game in 1995, right up to last season’s championship winning Gloucester-Hartpury team, things have certainly changed for the sport but the City’s support for the Cherry & Whites remains unwavering.

Foundation CEO, Rob Webber, commented about the importance of supporting events such as this: “It was a no brainer for the Foundation to team up with the Gloucester History Festival to put on this event. The City of Gloucester and Gloucester Rugby have been fundamentally linked for generations, so we wanted to take a moment to stop and reflect on all the great memories from the last 150 years.”

Webber continued: “All proceeds will go to supporting the Gloucester Rugby Foundation’s heritage project, so by attending this event you will not only be celebrating the past, but supporting the future by funding the delivery of the Foundations heritage project which looks protects and champions the rich history of Gloucester Rugby through school programmes and reminiscence sessions.”
