Lewis Ludlow has been named Gloucester Rugby’s Club Captain for the 2020-21 season by Head Coach George Skivington.

The 26-year-old flanker has captained the Cherry & Whites on multiple occasions, especially since the arrival of Skivington as Head Coach, and will now take up the Club Captain mantle on a full-time basis.

After joining the Gloucester Rugby Academy aged 17, Ludlow quickly began to establish himself in the Cherry & Whites setup. He went on to represent the Club at U18 level and A-league fixtures, before becoming an influential member of the squad, initially breaking through to the first team in 2013. Since then, the hard-hitting back-rower has made over 100 senior appearances for Gloucester Rugby.

George Skivington was delighted to confirm Ludlow as the new Club Captain for the 2020-21 campaign.

“Lewis epitomises everything we want from a Gloucester Rugby player; he turns up for work every day and gives 100%, he’s Gloucester Rugby through and through, and most importantly he leads by example.

“As an academy graduate, he is a great role-model for those younger players coming through who will be aiming to emulate the journey Lewis has been on so far.”

On his appointment as the new Club Captain, Ludlow added,

“It’s a massive honour for me. A Club like this has so much history, and looking at some of the past Captains, it’s a really huge privilege, and it’s one I won’t take lightly.

“Gloucester gave me a chance when I was 17, and I’ve been in the pathway ever since, so now to be given the Captaincy, it’s huge for me, and I’ll be looking to repay the faith the Club has put in me.”

Ludlow's progression through the Club is one Alex Brown believes is particularly impressive as the Gloucester Rugby Chief Operating Officer looks to the future.

“The rise to Club Captain is something Lewis can be very proud of and is a true testament to the opportunities and aspirations that can be reached within our Academy system that we are continually looking to take from strength-to-strength.

"As we strive for a successful future, the importance of our Academy is key to the development of our Club and having a home-grown player who has represented Gloucester Rugby at each stage of that pathway named Club Captain sets the perfect example to our young, aspiring players."
