Gloucester Rugby is delighted to announce that Louis Hillman-Cooper and Matty Jones have re-signed with the Gloucester Rugby Academy.

Two backs with hugely exciting futures, it is a sign of the strength of the pathway that players of their talent want to extend their deals with the Club.

Louis Hillman-Cooper has been involved in all three of our Premiership Rugby Cup games this season and joined the Academy aged 16. The centre is a Cheltenham College graduate and as a local lad, knows the significance of playing at Kingsholm.

Matty Jones has also impressed in Premiership Rugby Cup appearances this season and the scrumhalf is in the England U20s Six Nations squad where he is furthering his development as a professional rugby player.

A former Dean Close pupil, he has had valuable game time at Hartpury this season which has given him crucial exposure at a high level.

Peter Walton, head of academy, is delighted that these two have signed on.

“It’s a pleasure to have Matty and Louis re-sign with Gloucester Rugby.

“They are both players who joined the DPP program at U13 and having gone to school at Cheltenham College and Dean Close, they would have dreamed of playing at Kingsholm as they were growing up.

“Neither of them are far away from breaking into the first team and it is great that they want to continue their development at Gloucester Rugby.

“Not only are they developing on the field but they are both taking part in work experience away from the club where they are looking to develop themselves as individuals as well.”

Director of Academy and Development, Carl Hogg, knows how important it is to have home grown players re-sign with the club.

“It is great for the Club to have two local players sign on with Gloucester Rugby. There are significant cultural benefits to having a high number of home-grown players at the Club and it provides a connection and identity between the club and the local community.

“At Gloucester Rugby, it is vitally important that the core of our squad identifies with the community that they represent.”
