Gloucester Rugby secured a valuable Gallagher Premiership win with the 36-3 victory over Worcester Warriors. Louis Rees-Zammit’s first try was enough to see him win the 1873 Club Outstanding Moment.

Following the game Louis came into the Abbey Business Lounge alongside team-mates Willi Heinz and Mark Atkinson, and took part in the post-match Q&A for 1873 Club Members, hosted by former Gloucester back row forward Simon Devereux.

Louis was then presented with the award by Devs, who provided the following summary of the match.

“In the end this was a comfortable bonus point win for Gloucester following a strong final quarter, but the match was largely forgettable for the first hour when the scores were locked at 3-3.

“The turning point of the match came when Worcester lost a man to the sinbin after a couple of strong Gloucester forward carries near the Worcester line approaching the hour mark. Gloucester correctly opted for scrum pressure, rather than taking the points, and were rewarded with a try by Ruan Ackermann who took an intelligent line from behind the ruck. The relief on the pitch and in the ground was palpable as the Kingsholm atmosphere was transformed.

“Gloucester totally dominated the first half but early penalties and three attacking lineout losses prevented them from building momentum. Two close but correctly disallowed tries by the TMO didn’t help Gloucester’s cause but they struggled to penetrate a physical Worcester defence.

“Whilst the half time score line of 3-3 was remarkable considering Gloucester’s dominance, they will have been positive approaching the second half knowing that they were in total control of their own destiny if they were more clinical, especially in the Worcester ‘22’.

“Even the most optimistic of Gloucester fans could not have foreseen what would happen in the final quarter as Gloucester built on the opening try to register four further tries. The vision and diagonal kick execution from both Danny Cipriani and Billy Twelvetrees were excellent in setting up tries for Chris Harris and Louis Rees-Zammit. Good close range lineout work, where Gloucester shifted the point of attack, enabled Ben Morgan to crash over.

“Gloucester looked a different team in the final quarter as their error count reduced. Their pace, decision making and accuracy overwhelmed Worcester. Gloucester visibly grew in confidence following the first try and the bench impact ensured that Gloucester’s earlier dominance was deservedly rewarded as Worcester crumbled under the attritional pressure. Festive cheer for all present at Kingsholm!”
