After four seasons in the Cherry and White of Gloucester Rugby, prop Paddy McAllister will return to his native Ireland next season when he joins Connacht Rugby.

The front rower joined the Cherry and Whites ahead of the 2015-16 season from Stade Aurillac in Pro 2 in France. The loose head made 44 appearances for Ulster where he spent four seasons before suffering a serious knee injury.

Since arriving from France, he has gone on to become a first team regular and has surpassed 50 competitive first team appearances during his time at Kingsholm.

Connacht confirmed on Thursday afternoon that McAllister would be joining their ranks next season and he confirmed that the opportunity to return home was too good to turn down.

“Thank you to everyone at Gloucester Rugby for the great honour to play for this amazing club, and a special thank you to the fans and the community because, in my four years here, my wife and I have made special memories and friends for life.

“However, the opportunity to play back home in Ireland and close to family and friends as our own family is growing was something that we couldn’t turn down.

“I am really looking forward to a special finish to this season with a special group of players, and end my time at Gloucester with silverware and even more memories made.”

Director of Rugby David Humphreys added

“Paddy has been a popular member of the squad during his time here. I’ve known him since he came through the ranks at Ulster and he’s always worked hard at his game and given 100% on the pitch.

“He deserves particular credit for bouncing back after suffering what was a terrible knee injury. For him to battle back and play again at the highest level is testimony to his strength of character.

“Everyone at Gloucester Rugby wishes him and his family well for the future.”
