For a century and a half, in the heart of the City, a cathedral of Rugby has stood where history is not written but exists within all of us. Together on and off the field, the crest worn with pride, it’s the memories we make, the bonds we forge and the passion unrivalled. It’s home to us all since 1873.

As Gloucester Rugby celebrate their 150th anniversary season, Gloucester Rugby Foundation are hosting a special ‘150 Years of Gloucester Rugby’ event on Thursday 7th September at Kingsholm Stadium.

Join us to explore and celebrate key moments, and some hilarious stories, from 150 years of Gloucester Rugby and hear what it’s like to wear the Cherry and White shirt from some of the finest players to have ever played at Kingsholm, including:

Mike Burton: Won a reputation as an uncompromising prop forward for Gloucester, England and the British and Irish Lions. The Legendary Mike Burton represented Gloucester 368 times scoring 27 tries in the process.

Fred Reed: Reed is the current Club President and was a mobile hard-tackling hooker who played 134 games and scored 15 tries games for Gloucester between 1969 and 1980, won several county caps and was reserve for a final England trial.

Andy Deacon: A player who spanned the amateur and professional era, Deacon joined Gloucester RFC in 1986 from local club Longlevens RFC. A Gloucester Rugby icon with 301 games and 17 tries.

Alex Brown: Brown is the Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Club and was a mobile second-row and skilful exponent of the lineout,England international who achieved 233 games and 7 tries.

They will also be joined by stars of the current men's and women’s teams.(training schedules permitting).

Alongside club historian Malc King and chaired by BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Jo Durrant, whose great grandfather, Tom Spiers, played 56 games for Gloucester in the 1900s. It truly is an event to look back and celebrate.

Whilst the sport of rugby has changed beyond recognition in 150 years the passionate and unwavering support for the Cherry & Whites from the community remains unique within English rugby.
