Gloucester Rugby travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol Bears in Round 19 of the Gallagher Premiership on Monday. Ahead of the fixture, Jack Singleton spoke to the media to preview the game.

On try scoring 50th Premiership appearance

“I didn’t actually know it was my 50th start until I got a message after the game but it was a good win for the boys and there was a good feeling throughout the game. We were really happy with it.

“We’ve definitely taken some strides forward since Skivington has come here. We dropped away from it a little bit and it’s something that we spoke about during the time off that we had after Newcastle, about what we want to be as a pack. We’ve trained hard on it all year and we want to be a dominant, mauling team and having that as a threat. I was really happy. As a hooker, you get some of the credit but it’s really down to the people in front of you.”

On providing a platform

“With the X factor backs that we’ve got at the club, we want to provide a platform for them to be able to show what they can do. We’ve got some unbelievable ball players in the midfield and some outstanding wingers and back three players so we want to try and put it on a plate for them as much as possible.”

On improvements to be made after Northampton

“I think there are a lot of areas that we can improve. We conceded a try that I know a lot of the boys were disappointed about in the last 10 minutes. We lost a lineout in the game and we had one messy delivery as well. There are tonnes of places. We are sitting 10th in the league, we’re nowhere near the finished article or where we want to be at the moment. One of the issues is consistency, when you do have a good performance you’ve got to back it up the next week and we’re hoping to do that.

On Bristol Bears

“They’ve been unbelievable this season with some of the rugby that they’ve been playing. We’ve got a couple of things that we’ve spoken about this week about ourselves and what we want to put out there and the Gloucester performance that we want to put out and if we can go and do that then we’ll be in a good position to try and win the game.

“Bristol are a team that can strike from anywhere and they can score at any point with the players that they have who can just make something happen out of nothing. We’re going to have to take our opportunities if they come. Their defence is good as well so we’re going to have to work hard for them but when we get our opportunities, we need to make sure we finish them.”

On fans returning

“I can’t wait. It’s a shame we’re not at Kingsholm this week but we’ll get that the following week. I know Ashton Gate is a great stadium to play in, even if you are one of the away teams. It’ll just be great to have some people there and hopefully it’s a step in the right direction.”
