Since initially joining the Cherry and Whites on loan from the Cornish Pirates back in November, Kyle Moyle has worked his socks off, playing in all but one of Gloucester Rugby’s games so far this season.

His attacking flare and consistency at fullback saw him sign a permanent contract with the club in January and Moyle has been going from strength to strength with each minute he plays at this level.

“It’s been a bit of a dream start to be honest!” Moyle said to the press. “Coming up and just getting the opportunity to train with these guys was quite special for me and then to actually get a consistent run of games came as a bit of a surprise to myself but it’s something that I’ve very much enjoyed.

“It would have been lovely to have done it earlier in my career, but a few things didn’t fall my way and I was a player that matured at a later age and those things do happen but I’m very pleased to finally have the opportunity even if I am 28!”

Originally joining the club on loan, there is no doubt that thoughts of what impressing at this level could lead to but Moyle tried to just focus on enjoying the opportunity.

“I tried not to put too much pressure on myself. I just wanted to come up and enjoy the experience and try and learn off these players because they’ve been at this level for so long now and that can bring out the best in me. To get the opportunity to sign a contract was a very proud moment and is something I’m very happy with.”

There is a big step up in the level between the Championship and Premiership but the outside back has adapted well thanks to the help of his teammates.

“The first thing is just the speed that the game runs at. The physicality is very similar, the Championship is a very physical league, but the pace of the game and having a skillset under pressure is a level up and is something I’m working on now so I can match these guys at this level.

“Jason (Woodward) has been brilliant for me. He’s a very good attacking player and I love the way he runs, skips and draws in defenders. He’s a very skilful player so he’s someone I’m really trying to tap into for information and he’s helping me with work ons as well.”

With Northampton coming to Kingsholm on Saturday, Moyle will be eyeing up another opportunity to showcase his skillset and is hoping to turn around the recent run of results.

“It’s a game we’re targeting. We definitely want to win. They are a great outfit and they love to attack but that’s something that can play to our strengths with our defence. It’s a game we’re looking forward to and wanting to attack.

“Result wise it hasn’t been the best start to the season but that’s been through our ill-discipline and it’s all in our control. We are playing good rugby so that’s a positive to take from it it’s just about working on our discipline to stop letting teams into the game.

“We’ve had two weeks off now so the boys are refreshed and ready to go. We’re all chomping at the bit to get out there this weekend and put on a performance.”
