“Come and watch us, we’re actually not bad at rugby. We will put on a good show for you.”

Gloucester-Hartpury’s Daisy Fahey talks about her teammates international achievements in the Tiktok’s Women’s Six Nations and her preparations for this weekend, where she will make her Royal Air Force debut at Kingsholm.

This Saturday is “going to be a good day of rugby for sure” as it’s one of the biggest days in England’s calendar, as they kick-start the Women’s Six Nations against Scotland with Gloucester-Hartpury players on the team sheet.

Fahey states: “You’ve got Connie Powell and Emma Sings on the bench which is a massive achievement.”

“Sisilia Tuipulotu as well, what a player she is! She’s going to be massive for the Welsh squad.”

After proudly highlighting her teammates achievements, the Cherry and White’s player goes on to say that: “to play for their country is the biggest thing to do.”

With the Red Roses hoping to continue their winning streak of the Six Nations, Fahey agreed that they’ve had a massive impact on the media to promote women’s rugby.

“I think every tournament that they go into, it’s better than their last,” she says.

As more women’s tournaments like the Six Nations and the Premier Allianz 15s getting regularly televised and funded, matches have become more accessible for fans to follow.

Fahey goes on to comment on how beneficial Tiktok will be, as the new major sponsors of the tournament.

She states: “The backing of such a big brand will make it be all over social media so people can’t not see it.”

“This is exactly what we needed when we were younger,” Fahey says.

“I played with the junior boys teams until I was in the Under 13s because they didn’t have any teams for girls available.”

The fly-half reflected on the very beginning of her rugby journey, at six years old where her brother played a big influence for the start of her rugby career at Totnes RFC in Devon.

After being restricted to only watching her brothers rugby, Fahey remembers seeing her Dad’s puzzled face after asking her Dad, “Can I play?”

With the early progressions of girls rugby and no girls teams around, her Dad’s reaction was purely due to the confusion as to whether she wouldn’t be allowed to join.

Fahey goes on to talk about the excitement she feels in preparation for her Royal Air Force debut for the women’s rugby team against the Army.

The Cherry and White’s player will be staying in Kingsholm territory as she gets ready to make her debut against the RAF’s rivals.

“I cant wait for a little run out on Kingsholm this Saturday. I played their a couple weeks ago with Gloucester and it’s an amazing atmosphere. That Shed is everything you want,” says Fahey.

Fahey’s admits that her job as a logistical remover, her Air Force rugby and her career Gloucester-Hartpury requires a carefully balancing of her schedule.

She says: “I absolutely love my job and get paid to play rugby. You can’t really get better than that can you?”

“Obviously sometimes, you do actually have to work. It’s not all just track suit warriors.”

Even though her career quickly fills up her time, Hartpury’s fly-half also highlights the club’s best attempts to show their faces in Gloucestershire’s community.

“We have a partnership with Nuffield. We go in and coach rugby sessions there; which is massive for the community,” says Fahey.

“We’re always trying to promote our rugby and trying to get in the community because thats where it all starts. They’re our future players.”

She continues: “I coached last weekend and there were about 75 girls there. It was amazing to see because I didn’t have that when I was younger.”

But for now, Fahey’s “biggest aspiration at the minute is to keep beating the Army.”

The next time Gloucester-Hartpury are away in action is on April 2 against Wasps Women in the Allianz Cup.
