It was a busy international weekend for a number of Gloucester Rugby and Gloucester-Hartpury players, who were on Six Nations duty for their respective countries.

It all started on Friday evening with the England U20s vs Italy U20s game at Goldington Road, the home of Bedford RFC.

The Gloucester Rugby Academy supplied five players on the night – Olly Adkins, Jack Bartlett, Aaron Hinkley, Jack Reeves and Tom Seabrook. Tom Seabrook scored the first try on the night while Jack Reeves made his debut.

Still at U20 level, Alex Morgan started for Wales U20s in their game in Scotland.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s Six Nations game between Wales and Scotland at Scotstoun, there were five Gloucester-Hartpury players on duty.

Bethan Lewis and Hannah Jones both started for Wales, and Bethan went over from close range for her country’s first try of the night. Kelsey Jones and Cerys Hale were both replacements, while Katie Dougan was a replacement for Scotland.

The game went to the wire, Scotland taking a late 15-10 lead, but they couldn’t quite hold on as Wales laid siege to the Scotland line as time ran out, and finally succeeded on burrowing over, the conversion snatching a 17-15 victory. Joy for Wales for heartbreak for Scotland.

On to Saturday, and Kelly Smith and Mo Hunt were both part of England Women’s impressive win over Italy at Sandy Park, Exeter. Italy were very competitive for the first half hour, when they only trailed 7-0, but once the second score came, England eased clear.

At U20s level, Iona Antwis started for England in their defeat in France. Elle Febrey and Emma Sing were both replacements, Emma kicking a conversion.

Finally, Jake Polledri was a late call-up for Italy and was a second-half replacement for the Azzurri in their game against England at Twickenham.
