An extraordinary team built of South Western Ambulance Service and Gloucester Rugby link up this Saturday at the club’s home game against Wasps Rugby (October 26 2019, 3pm) to kick start their campaign to highlight the importance for everyone to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

This CPR campaign is to raise awareness that early chest compressions for someone in cardiac arrest, when their heart has stopped working, can make the difference to their survival. Kellie who was saved by a bystander performing CPR on her after collapsing in April this year shares her story and is supporting this campaign.

Gloucester Rugby know what it means to work as a team and are helping to promote the importance of working together to achieve goals and, on this occasion, to save lives. As part of their support, the team will warm up in specially branded T shirts.

The launch at this weekend’s match against Wasps will also offer rugby fans and players a pre-match demonstration at Kingsholm Stadium, home of Gloucester Rugby from 1pm. In the Lion’s Den area, people can come and learn how to do CPR.

This collaboration between the Ambulance service and Gloucester Rugby club launches the campaign called ‘Saving Lives Together’ that aims to raise public awareness about early recognition when someone isn’t breathing, quickly calling 999 for help and starting CPR.

Rob Horton, Responder Manager for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust said:

“When someone’s heart has stopped beating the vital minutes before the ambulance arrives could make all the difference, our message is for people to step in and take action by calling 999 and starting chest compressions.”
