Gloucester Rugby U18, sponsored by Reef Group, fell short to their West Country rivals, Bristol Bears last night in a 25-15 defeat at Kingsholm.

The Cherry and Whites opened the scoring within the five minutes through Sam Loftus before Bristol replied shortly after. Charlie Rainbird scored Gloucester's second try just past the half hour mark bringing the score to 12 a-piece at the break.

Despite a narrow 15-12 lead during the second half, Gloucester's youngsters couldn't hold off Bristol's attack, with the Bears scoring two further tries to bring the final score to 15-25.

U18 Head Coach, Matt Teague commenting on the loss:

"We showed a lot of intensity and intent both sides of the ball first half, but couldn’t quite be accurate enough on several occasions, which essentially is where we fell short - not being able to convert pressure.

"Our lineout and maul under the guidance of Ed Slater gave us a true platform to play off. The boys will take some great learning from their performance to further develop as they embark on their school/college season before resuming the Academy League again.

"It was a fantastic evening under lights for players, their friends and family alike in experiencing what a special place Kingsholm is."

The academy now have a break in fixtures before the league restarts in January.
