Two Gloucester Rugby players are set to feature in the 2023 Guinness Six Nations opening round this weekend.

Scrum-half Stephen Varney starts for Italy on Sunday when they welcome the reigning champions France to Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Varney will win his 16th cap for Italy, since making his debut in 2020.

Back row Jake Polledri has not been selected in the Azzurri's opening fixture, but remains with the squad.

Chris Harris is among the replacements for Scotland in their Calcutta Cup fixture at Twickenham on Saturday evening.

The Lions centre is poised to make his 40th cap from the bench.

Elsewhere, Louis Rees-Zammit remains in the Wales camp as he continues his return from injury.

Wales face Ireland in Cardiff on Saturday in the opening game of the tournament.

Wales v Ireland - Saturday 4 February, 2:15pm KO - Principality Stadium, Cardiff.

England v Scotland - Saturday 4 February, 4:45pm KO - Twickenham Stadium, London.

Italy v France - Sunday 5 February, 3pm KO - Stadio Olimpico, Rome.

In the U20s Six Nations, there are four Cherry & Whites in the starting XV for England this evening against Scotland at the Stoop. Archie McArthur, Finn Theobald-Thomas, Danny Eite and Josh Hathaway are the Gloucester Rugby representatives in the squad.
