Gloucester-Hartpury are aiming to maintain their unbeaten start to this season's Allianz Premier 15s when they take on Wasps this weekend.

Head coach Sean Lynn is not getting carried away with his side's positive start.

“It’s only round two and it’s been a great start, picking up 9 points from Exeter away and Bristol at home is crucial and we’re building some real good momentum.”

“We’ve got Wasps away this week and then Saracens the week after so we’ve got two real big weeks ahead of us so the big focus is in the next two weeks and then go from there.”

Lynn knows that going to Wasps is always a challenge, but is confident that if his players stick to the plan, they can make it three wins from three in the league.

“Going up to Twyford Avenue is always tough, they’re very spirited and they gave Saracens a really tough game last week. As long as we can stick to our structures and get that collision dominance, hopefully we can go well.”

Last weekend, Gloucester-Hartpury defeated their West Country rivals Bristol Bears 36-5 at the Alpas Arena, Lynn was delighted with the performance from his players in the bonus point win.

“It was very pleasing, we’ve looked back over the video and the defensive effort in the first half was outstanding.

We know how Bristol like to play, they like to go edge to edge, and they’ve got some real big ball carriers. Going in half-time 10-5 up with very little possession was very pleasing.”

Lynn welcomed back a number of international players on the weekend, and was pleased with what he saw from the girls coming back in.

“They were amazing, the Welsh internationals when they came on, and Gwen Crabb and Bethan Lewis that started, were so physical. It’s nice to have Maud Muir and Connie Powell back in training this week so the squads building back up nicely.”

In addition to Muir and Powell, Gloucester-Hartpury have Zoe Aldcroft, Tatyana Heard and World Rugby Women's Player of the Year nominee Alex Matthews to return in the coming weeks, and Lynn is excited to add more world class players to a side already looking like they mean business.

“Going into round 5 against DMP, we’ll have Zoe, Alex, and Tatyana back, who bring so much to the squad. We’re very excited but we’re just taking it one game at a time up until Christmas.”

Prior to the West Country derby, over 200 girls were invited along to train with and meet the players. Lynn is proud of the work the club does to connect with their supporters and inspire the next generation of rugby players.

“It was amazing to have 200+ young girls coming to Hartpury, enjoying the day and talking to Maud Muir in a Q&A. It's absolutely inspiring, and it’s what the game should be all about.

“And for our players to see those girls and talk to them after the game is just amazing and great for women’s rugby all together.”
