Gloucester Rugby’s abrasive back-rower, Jordy Reid, is looking forward to a tough battle against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park this evening. But the Aussie knows the Cherry & Whites can’t allow a team as lethal as the Falcons any room.

“They’ve got some very dangerous individuals. Radwan and Carreras in particular have been lighting up the competition in broken play and from turnover ball.

“They score a lot of tries off turnovers so how we can control the ball will be pretty key, we can’t give them too much space.”

Radwan’s danger was obvious when he scored a sublime try in the Falcons 21-27 win over the Cherry & Whites at Kingsholm earlier in the season. Reid says they’ll be looking to right the wrongs of a disappointing afternoon at Kingsholm.

“It was talked about briefly. We were obviously disappointed, they outclassed us on that day to be fair so that’s something we want to try and rectify up there.

“Falcons are good at home and it’s a tough road trip so we know it won’t be easy. But we’re going there with plenty of energy and the confidence that we can do it.”

Last time out, Gloucester Rugby were defeated 5-26 by Leicester Tigers in the Gallagher Premiership, Reid says the team have reacted well in training in the aftermath.

“It was obviously a disappointing result, but we’ve come back in and put our heads down and worked hard on what we needed to improve on from that game.

“We’ve got plenty of energy going into this weekend, it’s a big game for us.”

The 31-year-old is hoping that after a week off last week, the extra preparation time has given them more time to refine the areas that they needed to.

“It gave us a little bit more time to go over the detail and correct a few things that we didn’t get right against Leicester. So hopefully we can take that into Newcastle this week.”

Defeat to the Tigers meant the Cherry & Whites slipped down to ninth in the Gallagher Premiership. Reid says that with only four league games remaining, and a Champions Cup quarter-final around the corner, the Cherry & Whites need to pick up some points and build some momentum.

“The league has been crazy this year with teams going up and down so any points will be pretty crucial to keep us in the mix, and hopefully also give us some momentum for a big game in the Champions Cup next week.”

Reid suffered an ankle injury after the defeat to Newcastle before Christmas, only returning to action against the Tigers a fortnight ago. He’s enjoying being back on the field.

“It’s brilliant to be back. I was super excited to get back in last week at Kingsholm.

"Watching can be tricky sometimes because you want to be out there, but I’m enjoying being back.”

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7.45pm at Kingston Park and will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
