The Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Project is committed to helping people overcome challenges to employment and move them closer towards or into work (including self-employment), onto education or into training.
The GEM Project is a unique partnership of nearly 50 community based organisations, managed by Gloucestershire Gateway Trust on behalf of the lead organisation Gloucestershire County Council and is jointly funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund.
This programme will reconnect people with their local services through their communities and ultimately help them achieve their desired outcome, whether through a working or educational related route. The GEM Project understands that everyone is unique, with different needs and requirements, impacting on their step into the world of employment, education or training.
Our GEM Navigator Developer works on a one to one basis with our participants to develop a progression pathway, where we help provide the tools and support to help them overcome their barriers and achieve.
"I’m most proud of just getting out there, volunteering, job hunting and trying new things. GEM gave me the tools for personal development, and I now find it easy to look for new opportunities myself. I know where to find support but at the same time, no longer feel like I need it." – Connor (18), GEM Participant
"I have now moved out of supported accommodation, have a full week of volunteering and working experience, and am doing my level 3 teaching assistant course. Seeing the work the Gloucester Rugby Foundation do as a GEM participant has helped me in so many ways” – Leila (25), GEM Participant
