Ollie Thorley scored four first-half tries as Gloucester Rugby beat Leicester Tigers 46-30

Ollie Thorley scored four first-half tries as Gloucester Rugby beat Leicester Tigers 46-30

Gloucester Rugby scored seven tries securing the bonus-point victory over Leicester Tigers at Kingsholm on Sunday.

What happened

The Cherry and Whites blew their rivals away in the first half and managed to cling on in the second half as Leicester made an almighty comeback.

Joe Simpson, Chris Harris and Ollie Thorley all got over in the first half, with the winger scoring four tries, but the Tigers looked a different side in the second half and came back from being 36-6 down at one point.

Leicester brought on Ben Youngs and George Ford who added some control to their game and tries from Harry Potter, Jordan Taufua and Cameron Henderson put Steve Borthwick’s team back in contention.

However, Lloyd Evans calmed the nerves at Kingsholm late in the second half by getting over the try line and a Billy Twelvetrees conversion put Gloucester Rugby comfortably ahead at full time.

The forwards were physical and spent all afternoon providing quick clean ball for the backs out wide to use but George Skivington will be most pleased by the way his side managed to hold on in the second half and take the full five points away from the fixture.

Ollie Thorley was on fire

There was no stopping Ollie Thorley. The rampaging winger had a real taste for the try line and went over for four spectacular scores, joining an exclusive club, with only two other players who have scored four first-half tries in the Premiership.
