It was an arm wrestle of a game and a late attacking surge from the Cherry and Whites was not enough for Gloucester Rugby, who came away second best in Round 7 of the Gallagher Premiership.
Northampton played some good rugby and scored through Taqele Naiyaravoro, Rory Hutchinson and two tries from Shaun Adendorff.
Willi Heinz made a scoring return to action with Matias Alemanno also getting over for his first Gloucester Rugby try.
The score line remained close for the full 80 minutes with the Cherry and Whites taking a 12-11 lead at the break but Northampton were able get ahead through two quick tries and held on to edge the win.
Key moment – Willi Heinz scores on return
Ollie Thorley received the ball in the Gloucester Rugby 22 and it looked like he was swarmed with Northampton defenders. Producing a sprinkle of magic, the winger stepped and galloped his way through on a carving break. Heinz was on his shoulder and Thorley offloaded to the scrumhalf who went over to score in his first apperance of the season.
Gloucester Rugby is back in action next weekend when they travel away to London Irish for Round 8 of the Gallagher Premiership next weekend.
