George Skivington excited for West Country derby

Gloucester Rugby host Bath in the West Country derby on Saturday and George Skivington is looking forward to the fixture against our biggest rivals.

On Bristol Bears loss

"We put it to bed on Monday. We had Saturday and Sunday on our own to individually look back over the game and our preparation and then on Monday we came in to review it and now, we’ve parked it.

"It was disappointing at the time and to lose it in the last couple of minutes is the way it goes. The Premiership is relentless. So many games come down to a point here and a point there. We’ve lost our last two Premiership games by a combined four points. It’s a tough league and it’s hard. Bristol were good last Friday night and that’s the way it goes."

On the business end of the season

"The objective is to be consistently competing. This is our first proper season where we had a pre-season and a good year working together and understanding each other properly. We did some good work on the foundations last year.

"This is where we want to be and the important thing is that we are here year after year. We had the Prem Cup semi, we’ve got the European quarter-final and we’re still in the fight in the Premiership and we want to be here every year and experience it and winning things."

On Bath

"Bath were dominant in their last game for a big period. They’ve got a quality squad and some great players in that team. They’ve got players who can do some very special things and we’ve seen that every time we’ve played them. From that point of view, it’s going to be a really hard derby game. It’s going to be tough and it’s going to be fast and furious. We’ve just got to focus on our game and I think we’ve got to get the fundamentals right. We’ve done that for most of the season. Hopefully we push our game through and work hard and see where it takes us."

On the West Country derby

"It's a big derby and it’s always a great atmosphere to play in. It’s brilliant from the moment the boys run out to warm up to the final whistle and after that. We’re really excited and a Saturday game at 3pm, we haven’t had one of them in ages so we’re really looking forward to it."
