Gloucester Rugby kick off Gallagher Premiership season away at Sale Sharks
On Wednesday morning Premiership Rugby revealed the first batch of Gallagher Premiership fixtures for 2019-20, and Gloucester Rugby will start on the road away at Sale Sharks.

The competitive season will actually kick off with four rounds of Premiership Rugby Cup action, with fixture details for that tournament being announced on Wednesday 17 July.

However, the first eight rounds of Gallagher Premiership action have been confirmed and the Cherry and Whites get underway at the AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday 19 October to take on the Sharks, kick off 3pm.

The first Premiership home game at Kingsholm will take place one week later, Saturday 26 October kick off 3pm, as Gloucester Rugby entertain Wasps which will see new signing Joe Simpson facing his former team-mates.

The Cherry and Whites will be back on the road the following weekend, as they take on Leicester Tigers at Welford Road. It’s another Saturday fixture, kicking off at 3pm on Saturday 2 November.

And the first tranche of Gallagher Premiership fixtures will be rounded off with another home fixture, as defending champions Saracens are the visitors to Kingsholm on Saturday 9 November, kick off 3pm.

The first two rounds of Heineken Champions Cup rugby then take place, before Gallagher Premiership Rugby resumes with a trip to the Stoop to play Harlequins on Sunday 1 December, kick off 3pm.

The first fixture under the Friday Night Lights at Kingsholm is penciled in following two more rounds of European action, and it’s a local derby as the Cherry and Whites take on Worcester Warriors on Friday 20 December, kick off 7:45pm.

Gloucester Rugby then travel to Franklin’s Gardens to face Northampton Saints on Saturday 28 December (kick off 3pm), before kicking off 2020 with another local derby, this time against Bath Rugby on Saturday 4 January, kick off 3pm.

Head Coach Johan Ackermann told the club website today that it’s a big few weeks to kick off the new season.

“We’ve seen the fixture list today and now we know what lies ahead. It’s a big task. Sale were already playing some decent rugby last season and have recruited well this summer.

“They’ve added some more South African flavour with the likes of Jood de Lager, Akker van der Merwe and the du Preez brothers. It’ll be a massive challenge for us to start with.

“When you look at that first set of fixtures, we’re taking on some top teams. I’ve said it from day one, this competition is so close, there are no easy games. It’s a huge challenge for us but it’s a great game to be involved in.

“This tournament is going to test you every week, but hopefully we’ll be ready to compete and compete well. With the World Cup and the season starting later, there will be less time off and your squad and your durability will be tested.

“Wasps will be a tough opponent, Leicester will be on the rebound and Saracens are the defending champions. Then we go into Europe, and we still don’t know who we will be playing in those two weeks yet, but they will be tough games.

“But that’s where we wanted to be, we wanted to play the best teams in Europe. Now we’re there and we must compete. It’s going to take a lot of hard work, but we believe in ourselves.”
