He then served as an Assistant Coach to Philippe Saint Andre before moving on to the Worcester Warriors, who he guided into the Guinness Premiership for the first time in their history, and then down the M5 to Bristol.
He will now spend the rest of the season working in a scouting capacity for Gloucester, identifying and researching players based on a remit laid down by Head Coach Bryan Redpath.
Brain explained today:
"Bryan first approached me a few weeks ago to talk about this role. He and Carl (Hogg) obviously spent much of their week working in a coaching capacity."
"He explained that there is a requirement to help identify the right sort of talent in certain areas of the squad and that's where I'll be helping out until the end of the season."
